5.6 Magnitude earthquake hit San Jose last night at about 8:00 PST.
That nearly scared the bejeebers out of me! Jake and I were in the middle of our pumpkin carving (pictures of the cute pumpkin carvings to follow) while wifey was taking pictures of the guts and glory when I felt the first shakes. There was like a little sonic boom of sorts and then it was more of a roll than a shake, like the house was on casters or something. We all stood under the doorway to our hall/kitchen to ride it out, the whole time Jake kept asking, "What's going on? What's going on?".
The TV news was saying that this was the first "big" quake to hit the Bay Area since Loma Prieta. It makes me wonder what the '89 quake was really like...NOT!
I did a small run through the house to see if anything had fallen, luckily nothing did. We got on the phone to call family and close friends to check up and to let them know we were okay. Home phone didn't work for a while, so cellphones we used. The Dy-Liaccos were okay, the Estupins didn't feel it, and wifey had a "blonde" moment that we won't elaborate too much on with regard to contacting the Payumos.
Another reminder of how human we are and how we have to be more prepared for a real "big" one.
We're okay, People. Hope you are too.
